I have just finished reading Helen Black's first book. It was a very compelling read. I could hardly put it down.
Helen tells a very compelling story about the struggles of their family as they dealt with some form of "mental illness" experienced by their first child, John. Helen has done an extensive amount of research in an effort to help her son. After continued frustration with the traditional medical system, she and her husband decided to pursue "complementary" services, using many health professionals who had a differant take on treating disease.
In this wonderfully referenced text, Helen talks about food, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential fatty acids and probiotics. She talks about naturopaths, psychologists, pharmacists, physicians, chiropractors, as well as other specialists in their respective fields of expertise. How her family had to assemble a team of advisors that would help guide them to a very successful outcome, over a number of years.
She has been able to asemble a wonderful array of information to help one of your loved ones that may be suffering from some form of mental illness,MS, Tourette's syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and the like.
Although our bodies are all unique, and will respond a little differently to what has worked for her family, she has given us very valuable information. Information that has taken her years to accumulate and assemble.
Her book is extremely well laid out, and is packed with very valuable information, including an extensive bibliography along with websites, videos and other resources.
This is a must read for families struggling with mental health issues, whether it be a child or a spouse, or a parent. It is certainly a book I will recommend to many of my clients. Our environment is changing, our food supply is changing, and we need to be made aware of this, and what we can do about it.
Sincerely,

Review by Warwick Poon
This is an extremely important book, for anyone who has or knows a child who is suffering from any type of mental deficit or illness, no matter what country they live in. This is a hero story which includes the added spice that it is very, very real.
There will always be mothers and fathers who are not convinced that conventional medicine is not doing all that can be done for their child. This is the story of how a mother so loved her son, that she set herself and her family on a road of discovery through the minefield of both orthodox and conventional medicine. She found a way to give her son not only a happy caring family life, but also a future with a happy, healthy and constructive potential. The book has been set out, so that what the author took years to learn can be learnt by the reader in less than a week and not only is all of the information accurate but demonstrated to be beneficial for her family. Not all family's can go through the amount of stress and anguish that this family did, and still be as clear of mind and able to experiment so much with diet and supplements in an effort to find methods to change a child's growing body chemically enough to cause brain function improvement. The author writes with a clear mind, a factual style and a scientific clarity, that is disarming for anyone who may be skeptical about alternative medicine.
The author of this book is a true heroine, and her husband a caring and loving husband as well. This is a book about beating the odds and finding a way through. Even if you are not working with children or have children of your own, you really should read this book as just a feel-good, happy-ending story. You may even learn something along the way.
